All Seven

This is the last thing in my current yoga practice that I’m still afraid of. The other inversions— headstand, check. Pincha, check, Karanda— well, I can’t completely DO it but I’ve gotten over the fear of folding legs into lotus while balanced on my forearms. Being upside down doesn’t scare me anymore. Even handstand, at the wall, which used to scare the hell out of me to the point that I’d sabotage my own attempts at kicking up, doesn’t phase me. I teach it. I help people get up against the wall.

The middle of the room is another animal, though, and the idea that in order to fall out of it i should bend my knees and just let my feet fall to the floor, landing in a backbend? That’s like five feet of free fall.

Wait, five feet? That’s all?

Yeah. I’m scared of a five-foot free fall. But with help, I’m getting over that fear.
